This one’s for all the men out there. (Don’t worry ladies, I’m sure I’ll piss you off too at some point.) Have you ever asked yourself how this world got to be in such a fucked up mess? Men used to be the dominant sex, unquestionably. It used to be the strong man who blazed the paths into the unknown and led the family unit and the community into the future. Man was the hunter-gatherer and provided his kith and kin with food, shelter and protection. Survival of the species required that man took his role and responsibility seriously. And then something happened.
With the advent of animal domestication and agriculture to help supplement a hearty diet, a softer breed of man was allowed to survive and prosper instead of growing into the dominant and powerful version he was meant to be. And with every advance in science and technology, man has veered further away from his natural role in society. Now I’m not saying that all men have been emasculated, but when I look around, or watch television, or take in a movie, it’s hard to miss all of the un-manly males flaunting their softer side. Oh, no. I’m just getting started!
Case in point: My ancestors were the warriors of the frozen North. For centuries they produced generation after generation of warrior stock and they bravely sailed to unknown lands in order to find better homes and prosperity. The Vikings were also known as the scourge of the seas because the lived by the law of conquest and were unafraid to face anyone in battle. But nowadays the true Viking lifestyle is all but a shadow of the past. On my last visit to the fatherland, I encountered some very effeminate looking young males. I thought to myself how embarrassed our ancestors would have been to see guys like that coming from the Nordic tree. And our ancestors were giants among men in their day!
Men, it’s our fault that the fairer sex have begun to dominate in the workplace. Women have surpassed a lot of males in positions that historically have been deemed men’s work. Lots of people would say that women having equality in the workplace is a good thing. But what about the roles that women were designed to fill: Companion, helper, mother? Men, as I have said, were meant to bring home the bacon. That’s our responsibility, just like the ladies have theirs. But when the lines of responsibility get blurred to oblivion, the obvious outcome results in total confusion and future generations who know not the Gods' designs for our existence.
Yes, Virginia, I am a Viking. My views of the world and how it works (or DOESN’T work) come from a lifetime of traveling the world as a warrior and humanitarian. If you’re lucky, maybe someday I’ll share what happened to me when I died on the operating table in an Army hospital and how my connection with the universe changed. But as for today, let it suffice to say that I see just how far we’ve fallen from the righteous path and I know how imperative it is for men to stop laying down and taking whatever anyone dishes out. It is time for us to right the ship and continue sailing for new horizons. If you’re able and strong enough to row with the clan, then this could be one hell of a ride. If not, then overboard with you.
